Mountain Home Disposal

Mountain Home Disposal (MHD), an affiliate of BFI/Allied Waste Services, strives to provide seamless trash, recycling, and yard waste collection services to Mountain Home residents.

Garbage Collection Guidelines
Residential solid waste service is mandatory in the City of Mountain Home.  Garbage is collected once a week with no limit on the number of carts, cans or bags you may set out.

Use the Right Container
All trash must be in containers or bags to keep odors in and animals out.  A closed container will prevent tampering by pets, minimize odors, and block rainwater.

  • Wheeled carts

  • Trash cans with lids (35 gallons or smaller)

  • Plastic garbage bags, tightly closed

  • Paper kraft bags for yard waste

Limit Size and Weight of Containers
For driver safety, container sizes must be between 20 and 35 gallons and can be no heavier than 60 pounds.
MHD provided wheeled carts are limited to 95 gallons and may not be heavier than 200 pounds.

 Collection Requirements

  • Trash and yard waste must be set out by 6:00 am.

  • All containers must be removed from the curbside within 24 hours.

  • Wheeled carts should be placed at the curb line with lid hinges pointing away from the street.

  • No hazardous materials, fluorescent light tubes, paint or vehicle batteries are collected curbside. See information included in this website for proper disposal of household hazardous materials.

  • Make sure drivers have safe and convenient access to containers.

  • Do not set trash containers close to obstructions such as mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, or utility poles.

  • Do not block sidewalks with cans or bags.

  • Do not overload containers or pack them so tightly that trash is difficult to remove.

  • Do not overload containers so as to prevent the container lid from closing completely.

  • Trees and branches must be cut to less than 4' in length, bundled, and placed next to your garbage can on your regular collection day.

Yard Waste Collection Guidelines
To help keep disposal costs down, the City of Mountain Home collects yard waste separately from March through November.  Yard waste includes grass clippings, shrub and tree trimmings, leaves and branches.  During the months of December, January, and Feburary, yard waste is picked up on the regular collection day as part of the trash.  To help MHD provide safe and consistent service, please follow these guidelines:

  • Yard waste is collected by a separate truck on the same day as your trash.

  • Please contain yard waste in paper kraft bags or 20-35 gallon cans.  MHD cannot accept yard waste in 95-gallon wheeled carts.

  • The maximum allowable weight for any single can or bag is 60 pounds.

  •  Please cut wood to 4-ft. lengths and bundle for easier handling.  The opening at the back of the truck is only 4 ˝ feet wide.

  • Sod, dirt and rocks are prohibited.

If you have questions regarding the collection of yard waste, please call Mountain Home Disposal at 587-4237 or the City of Mountain Home at 587-2104.

Blue Bin Recycling Guidelines
Recycling is included in residential solid waste service.  Every household that signs up for service is provided with a blue recycling bin.  Recycling is collected by a separate truck on the same day as garbage. The bin remains the property of BFI/Allied Waste Services. To replace a broken or damaged bin, call BFI/Allied Waste Services at 345-1265.

Recycling Collection Requirements
In order to keep costs down, recyclables must be sorted.

Use Separate Paper Bags to Sort These Items in Your Bin

  • Newspapers (including inserts), magazines, and catalogs.

  • Metals:  Cans (Rinse empty cans - labels are okay - aerosol cans must be empty - pesticide cans are prohibited), pie tins (rinsed), wire hangers (stripped of foam and paper).

  • Mixed Paper (junk mail, white or pastel ledger, cereal and frozen food boxes, paper bags, envelopes, fax paper, computer paper, brochures, greeting cards and wrapping paper without foil, construction paper.)
