Garden City
BFI/Allied Waste Services strives to provide seamless trash and recycling services to Garden City residents.
Garbage Collection Guidelines
Residential solid waste service is mandatory in Garden City. Service
includes both trash and recycling collection. Residents are provided one 95-gallon wheeled
cart in which to contain garbage. Carts remain the property of BFI/Allied
Waste Services.
Contain
All Trash
Carts are emptied by an automated truck. The driver does not exit the
truck to pick up loose trash. If you occasionally have more trash than the
cart will hold, bag and place in the cart the following week. If you
consistently have more trash than the cart will hold, please order a second cart
(additional cart rental fees apply).
*See "Large Items" for exceptions.
Limit Weight of Containers
Wheeled carts are
limited to 95-gallons and may not exceed 250 pounds.
Contain
All Trash
Throughout the year, upon customer request,
BFI/Allied Waste Services collects certain items that are too large and bulky to fit in a wheeled
trash cart. Items must be outside and visible to the driver. An
additional charge, based on volume, applies. These items include:
furniture: couch, chair, dresser, bed frame, mattress/box spring, TV, etc.
appliances: refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner, dishwasher, hot water heater, microwave, washer/dryer. Freon is safely removed and appliances are recycled.
miscellaneous: toys (bicycle, swing set), carpet/pad, grill, lawnmower, water softener, furnace, swamp cooler, etc.
Call BFI/Allied Waste Services at 345-1265 to arrange for large item pick-up and find out applicable fee.
Spring
Clean-Up Week
Each year in May, Garden City and BFI/Allied
Waste Services conduct a special Spring Clean-Up Week during which residents may dispose of
large items at no extra charge.
