Caldwell

BFI/Allied Waste Services strives to provide seamless trash collection services to Caldwell residents.

Garbage Collection Guidelines
Residential solid waste service is mandatory in the City of Caldwell.  Garbage is collected once a week with no limit on the number of carts, cans or bags you may set out.

Use the Right Container
All trash must be in containers or bags to keep odors in and animals out.  A closed container will prevent tampering by pets, minimize odors, and block rainwater.

  • Wheeled carts

  • Trash cans with lids

  • Plastic garbage bags, tightly closed

Please do not set trash out in paper grocery bags or cardboard boxes - these make a big mess if the bottoms fall out.

Limit Size and Weight of Containers
For driver safety, container sizes must be between 20 and 35 gallons and can be no heavier than 60 pounds.
BFI/Allied Waste Services provided wheeled carts are limited to 64 or 95 gallons.

 Collection Requirements

  • Trash and recycling must be set out by 7:00 am.

  • All containers must be removed from the curbside within 24 hours.

  • No hazardous materials, fluorescent light tubes, paint or vehicle batteries are collected curbside.

  • Make sure drivers have safe and convenient access to containers.

  • Do not set trash containers close to obstructions such as mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, or utility poles.

  • Do not block sidewalks with cans or bags.

  • Do not overload containers or pack them so tightly that trash are difficult to remove.

  • Wheeled carts should be placed at the curb line with lid hinges pointing away from the street.

  • Trees and branches must be cut to less than 4' in length, bundled and placed next to your garbage can on your regular collection day.
  • No sod, dirt or rocks, please.

Recycling Opportunities Include

Recycling Drop Site
The recycling drop site is located at the Rite Aid at 2809 E Cleveland Blvd in Caldwell.  This site will collect newspapers, magazines, other paper products, aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

Used Motor Oil
BFI/Allied Waste Services will collect up to 2 gallons of used motor oil per household per week. Do not mix with other fluids, such as brake or transmission fluid or gasoline. Use transparent, 1-gallon plastic jugs. Set containers next to (not inside) recycling bin. Label container “USED MOTOR OIL.” Write “SAVE” on the container for reuse.

Bulky Wastes and Appliances
BFI/Allied Waste Services collects refrigerators for recycling and other appliances upon customer request.  An additional collection fee applies.  Appliances must be outside and visible to the driver.  Call BFI/Allied Waste Services at 466-3302 to arrange for a special pick-up.

Rates and Special Services
Residential trash service is mandatory in the City of Caldwell.  All households are required to sign up in person for trash collection, along with water and sewer service, at the Water Department (305 W. Chicago).  City staff are available to set up trash, water and sewer accounts 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Bring photo identification.

All Caldwell City residents pay a flat monthly fee for trash collection.  Residents may rent a 95-gallon wheeled trash cart from BFI/Allied Waste Services for an additional fee.  Carry-out service is also available for an additional fee.  The City bills residents on a bi-monthly schedule.
