Boise City

BFI/Allied Waste Services strives to provide seamless trash and recycling services to Boise City residents. We work in conjunction with the City of Boise and are partners with the Boise Public Works Department.

Garbage Collection Guidelines
Residential solid waste service is mandatory in the City of Boise.  Garbage is collected once a week with no limit on the number of carts, cans or bags you may set out.

Use the Right Container
All trash must be in containers or bags to keep odors in and animals out.  A closed container will prevent tampering by pets, minimize odors, and block rainwater.

  • Wheeled carts

  • Trash cans with lids

  • Plastic garbage bags, tightly closed

Please do not set trash out in paper grocery bags or cardboard boxes - these make a big mess if the bottoms fall out.

Limit Size and Weight of Containers
For driver safety, container sizes must be between 20 and 35 gallons and can be no heavier than 60 pounds.  BFI/Allied Waste Services provided wheeled carts are limited to 64 or 95 gallons.

 Collection Requirements

  • Trash and recycling must be set out by 7:00 am.

  • All containers and recycling bins must be removed from the curbside within 24 hours.

  • No hazardous materials, fluorescent light tubes, paint or vehicle batteries are collected curbside. See information included in this website for proper disposal of household hazardous materials.

  • Make sure drivers have safe and convenient access to containers.

  • Do not set trash containers close to obstructions such as mailboxes, fire hydrants, parked cars, or utility poles.

  • Do not block sidewalks with cans or bags.

  • Do not overload containers or pack them so tightly that contents are difficult to remove.

  • Wheeled carts should be placed at the curb line with lid hinges pointing away from the street.

  • Trees and branches must be cut to less than 4' in length, bundled and placed next to your garbage can on your regular collection day.

Phone Book Recycling
Businesses and Residents without Curbside Recycling - If you are a business or live in a place without access to curbside recycling, you can take your phone books to any of the regular recycling centers year-round.   In addition, during the month of January you can take your phonebook to one of these special drop-sites around Boise:

    Special Drop Sites

  • 9th and River Street (near the Anne Frank Memorial)
  • 1410 North Hilton (near Orchard and Emerald, in the DEQ parking lot)
  • 11101 W. Executive Dr. (Allied Waste/BFI parking lot)

Blue Bin Recycling Guidelines
Recycling is included in residential solid waste service.  Every household that signs up for service is provided with a blue recycling bin.  Recycling is collected by a separate truck on the same day as garbage. The bin remains the property of BFI/Allied Waste Services. To replace a broken or damaged bin, call BFI/Allied Waste Services at 345-1265.

Recycling Collection Requirements
In order to keep costs down, recyclables must be sorted.

Use Separate Paper Bags to Sort These Items in Your Bin

  • Newspapers (including inserts), magazines, and catalogs.

  • Metals:  Cans (Rinse empty cans - labels are okay - aerosol cans must be empty - pesticide cans are prohibited), pie tins (rinsed), wire hangers (stripped of foam and paper).

  • Mixed Paper (junk mail, white or pastel ledger, cereal and frozen food boxes, paper bags, envelopes, fax paper, computer paper, brochures, greeting cards and wrapping paper without foil, construction paper.)

  • Plastics. All household plastics (1 through 7) except for plastic bags, motor oil jugs, and pesticide containers.

  • Corrugated cardboard. Break boxes down to less than 4x4' and place under or next to bin.

Glass is not collected curbside. Clear or colored glass may be recycled at area recycling centers.

Other Curbside Recycling Opportunities Include

Phone Book Recycling
Residents with curbside recycling - if you have a blue bin you can put your outdated phone books in the mixed-paper bag.
